High-Performance Biomass Boiler for Large Heating Demands
The KWB Powerfire2 is a powerful industrial-grade biomass boiler designed for demanding heating applications. Built with robust Austrian engineering and advanced combustion technology, it delivers reliable, efficient, and low-emission heat using wood chips or wood pellets.
Ideal for commercial buildings, institutional facilities, agricultural operations, and district heating networks, the PowerFire2 provides sustainable heat while reducing fossil fuel dependence and energy costs.

Designed for High Energy Demand
The Powerfire2 is engineered for facilities requiring large amounts of heat, including:
- Schools and universities
- Hospitals and healthcare facilities
- Municipal buildings
- Hotels and resorts
- Industrial facilities
- Agricultural and forestry operations
- District heating systems
Its high-capacity design ensures reliable performance even in continuous high-load applications.
Fuel Flexibility
One of the key strengths of the KWB Powerfire2 is its ability to operate with different biomass fuels.
Supported fuels:
- Wood chips up to 50% water content, size up to P45S (45mm / 2¾-inch)
- Shredded wood
- Wood pellets
A high-temperature combustion chamber ensures efficient combustion even with varying fuel quality, giving operators greater flexibility in fuel sourcing.
Advanced Combustion Technology

The Powerfire2 integrates sophisticated combustion control systems that optimize performance and emissions.
Key technologies include:
- Moving infeed grate for uniform fuel combustion
- Multiple air zones for optimized combustion control (primary, secondary and tertiary airs)
- Exhaust gas recirculation to mitigate clinker formation with low-grade fuels
- Lambda sensor monitoring to automatically adjust burning air supply
These systems help ensure high efficiency and low emissions, even during partial load operation.
The burner module is combined to a heat recovery unit featuring a large vertical three-pass fire-tube heat exchanger. An automated cleaning system uses moving spring mechanisms inside the tubes to remove fly ash that accumulates in the heat exchanger. The dislodged ash falls to the bottom of the unit, where it is transported by two augers beneath the heat exchanger and collected in dedicated ash containers for easy disposal.
Intelligent Automation
The Powerfire2 is designed for fully automated operation, minimizing operator intervention. The automation box can be wall-mounted or placed on the side of the boiler. It includes a 10.1″ touch-screen control panel.
Automated features include:
- Automatic fuel feeding
- Automated combustion optimization and heat output
- Automatic heat exchanger cleaning
- Automated ash removal
These systems help reduce maintenance requirements and simplify day-to-day operation.

Smart Monitoring and Remote Control
With KWB Comfort4 control connected to Comfort Online, operators can monitor and control the heating system remotely from a smartphone, tablet, or computer.
Features include:
- Real-time system monitoring
- Status alerts
- Remote access for technicians and service providers
- ModBus connectivity for smooth integration on larger control systems
This digital control platform ensures greater reliability, easier troubleshooting, and improved system management.

Modular Design for Easier Installation
The boiler’s modular construction allows it to be disassembled into several components, making installation possible even in buildings with limited access.
Benefits include:
- Easier transport into boiler rooms
- Simplified installation in existing buildings
- Reduced maintenance effort
- Long-term durability thanks to high-quality components
Various silo solutions are available depending on the fuel type, delivery method, and the required operating time of the boiler between silo refills.
Scalable Output up to 6 MW

The 500kW (1.7 million BTU/hr) Powerfire2 boiler is fully CSA certified. For smaller outputs, multiple KWB Multifire2 boilers can be combined.
For projects with higher heat demand, multiple KWB Powerfire2 boilers can be installed in a cascade configuration. By combining several units, the system’s total capacity can be scaled to as much as 6 MW. The picture above shows two 500kW units combined to output a total of 1MW/1000KW (equivalent to 3.4 million BTU/hr).
This modular approach allows large facilities or district heating networks to match heating capacity precisely to their needs while maintaining operational flexibility. Boilers can be staged to operate based on real-time demand, improving efficiency, system reliability, and maintenance scheduling.
A Sustainable Heating Solution
By replacing fossil fuel heating systems with the KWB Powerfire2, facilities can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions while supporting local biomass supply chains.
The system combines renewable energy, high efficiency, and intelligent automation, making it a reliable long-term heating solution for modern energy systems.
